I have been playing the keys (piano/keyboard) since I was 4 years old. However, I am no virtuoso or anything, I just like to play music. I play a lot of instruments - I am addicted to learning new instruments! I play the piano/keyboard, the guitar, the clarinet, the bass (I actually took upright bass lessons in college, but I never owned one, so I just play the electric bass guitar), and I'm currently learning the drums and the ukelele. I have also played the accordion and the harmonica. I also write electronic music and have audio engineering knowledge and experience. Other things about me are that I just moved to the Portland area at the end of August, 2014. I have a terminal degree in molecular biology and used to do research, but am no longer doing that. I am building a new career in Neurotherapy and other modalities to help people as part of my parents' therapy business. Also, I'm queer. I'm not in a relationship and I do not have children, unless you count my two cats and small dog. I'm still trying to figure out my purpose in life and working on being content with the way my life which is not necessarily how I planned it to be. Some things you have no control over and I'm always working on letting go. Music is always a sanctuary for me - a respite from life's difficult passages and a celebratory outlet for life's beauty.
As a child of the 1980s, I have a lot of favorites from that era, as well as from my high school years in the early 1990s. In 1990, I realized that U2 was the band behind some of my favorite songs (With or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for, etc.). Another favorite band of mine was/is The Pixies - there really is no other band that comes close to them, I think. I realized semi-recently that their music is surrealistic, as they clearly reference Dalí in at least one of their songs "Debaser" and their lyrics are clearly reminiscent of surrealist poetry ("I Bleed" is maybe my favorite). I wouldn't even want to try to copy their style (the Pixies), but I like how they were thinking "out-of-the-box". I also like The Cure - especially their synth sounds, mixed in with guitar, as well.
