My first experience singing behind a mic was on stage with Bill Monroe. I knocked on his bus door and asked if I could speak with Mr Monroe, and heard him say from the back to "let him in". Afterwards he gave me his home phone number and told me he would put me on the Grand Ole Opry. At that time I was 19 years old, and didn't play a stringed instrument so I dragged my feet calling him and by the time I did a few months later he had forgotten how we met (I believe he was 87 at the time). When I start singing, whether joining in with a group or solo, people stop and notice right away. I've always known I should be using my talent and I love playing gigs but have never jumped in with both feet. Besides singing lead, I can sing along with anyone I've ever met and can find a great harmony part quickly. I have a surprisingly large vocal range but I have usually sung tenor parts.
