I have been playing and teaching flute professionally for about 26 years now. Locally, I play with indie bandsPetoskey and the Crystin Byrd Band. The bands are not playing on a regular basis, which is why I am looking to get involved with some other projects. In the past, I've been a member of Secret Codes, Sea Caves, and Carcrashlander, playing flute and singing backup vocals. Musically, I can read and write music, improvise, and sing. I have a Ba in Music and a Ma in Music Composition. In addition to flute, I also tenor saxophone and some keys. To further open up other music possibilities in songwriting, I started taking guitar lessons in October 2014. I am absolutely loving guitar. I am particularly interested in a collaborated group environment that includes writing lyrics and composing. However, depending on the project, I would consider just being a sideman. Melody and lyrics are really important, especially when including flute in the mix. It doesn't matter to me if someone can read or write music, but one should be proficient on their instrument and know the chords and notes. Age doesn't matter, as long as the person is serious about their instrument, shows up to rehearsals and performances, and can communicate. I have a day job, so I am looking for something that meets weekly or bi-weekly in the evenings. Feel free to send me a note. Thanks for reading.
