Background Singer
Family-friendly and focused guy, inactive for some recent years, but I've been wood-shedding again for a while and seeking practice again with one or more musicians (primarily guitar or bass for the harmonic structure) ...then see what happens. For refreshing my chops, I have VERY specific interests right now. I'm a lead / rhythm guitarist and have played much "classic" rock and metal spanning mostly from the 60s - early 2000s (up to early post-grunge). I am not really a fan of most nu-metal, with a few exceptions. I've dabbled a little in shreddy stuff, but currently want to put together a set full of mostly twin-guitar lead harmony/melody songs from 70s - 80s, with some 90s+ for extra variety. So finding another capable lead guitar player for practicing is an essential first step, full band optional for now. Fair game can cover a wide spectrum from Allmans or Skynyrd, to Boston, Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard or Iron Maiden (and similar NWOBHM), Radiohead, Rush, Shinedown, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes, Breaking Benjamin, and/or springboard to other ideas. The common theme or ingredient that I want to focus on is inter-woven, layered guitars and/or keys (instead of boring singular rhythm and lead parts). My hope is to push each other to be more versatile (instead of only jammy or shreddy). I've done the too predictable cover song band things before, and no longer have an interest in oversaturating those ideas -- I want to play for more personal fulfillment than for show or hit songs. I have a good day job and family, so gigging and marketability are only optional to me, I want to play mostly for thrills. I'm time-limited like most weekend types, so this is a "happy medium" which is probably still realistic. A practice location between "northern" Montgomery County and Frederick is doable for me (and online first might save lots of time while starting out). Eventually, I want to play regularly in person then see where that goes (quality matters most).
