Bio: Having started seriously pursuing the cello at the late age of 16, Tyler Davis has a large spectrum of performance experience. He has performed with orchestras such
as the Southern Illinois Youth Orchestra, the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Centralia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Symphony Orchestra, Opera Saint Louis, Saint Louis Youth Symphony, Saint Louis Philharmonic, Clayton Symphony, the Muny Orchestra, and the Paducah Symphony. In addition, he is an avid recital performer, often given recitals at the Sheldon Concert Hall, the Art Saint Louis Gallery, Mitchell Museum for Cedarhurst Young Artist Series, as well as concerts throughout the Saint Louis Metro East area. He has been a cellist in the Illouri Cello Ensemble, as well as a member of various chamber music ensembles at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He has collaborated and recorded 2 albums with folk vocalist and guitarist Tonya Gilmore, giving concerts and shows at Coffee Houses, Art Museums, Cultural Centers, and other venues throughout the area. A Regional Arts Scholar and 2002 Southern Illinois Young Artist Concerto Competition Winner, Tyler has been awarded the National Symphonic Orchestra Award, Who's Who Among America's Youth, and the Jefferson County African American Heritage Society Award of Achievement through the Arts. His previous instructors include Glenda Piek, Kangho Lee, Marta Smidtchieva, and Kurt Baldwin. And has been a participant in various masterclasses with cellist Tsyoshi Tsutsumi, Marc Johnson, Andres Fejer, Hans Jorgen Jenson, and David Schepps. While Tyler isn't concertizing, he is working as Executive Chef for Siam, making pastries, reading, modeling, and writing recipes for his cookbook.
