I'm a singer/songwriter in the vein of Trampled By Turtles or The Avett Brothers. Looking for a folk, bluegrass, indie or folk/bluegrass/indie band to jump in with. I'm 29, been playing and home recording since I was 14. I'm big on string bands and harmonies in that folkie Peter Paul & Mary style, the contemporary equivalent to which I see in bands like Fleet Foxes or Midlake. I'm a strong vocalist and would love to take center with some good pickers but I'd be down for harmonizing from backstage if it makes a pretty sound.

The Birmingham Music Scene

One of the most famous Birmingham musicians is W.C. Handy, who is known as the "Father of the Blues." Handy was born in Florence, Alabama, but moved to Birmingham in 1893. He worked as a bandleader and composer in Birmingham, and it was here that he wrote some of his most famous songs, including "St. Louis Blues" and "Yellow Dog Blues."

Other famous Birmingham musicians include the rock band Alabama Shakes, the soul singer Otis Redding, and the rapper Ludacris. Alabama Shakes formed in 2009 and have since released two albums, "Boys & Girls" and "Sound & Color." The band has won four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist in 2012. Otis Redding was born in Macon, Georgia, but moved to Birmingham in the 1950s. He recorded his first single, "These Arms of Mine," in Birmingham in 1962. Redding died in a plane crash in 1967 at the age of 26. Ludacris was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to Birmingham in 1989. He released his debut album, "Back for the First Time," in 1999. Ludacris has since released eight more albums, and he has won four Grammy Awards.

Birmingham's music scene is not just about the famous musicians who have come from the city. It is also about the many talented musicians who are working and performing in Birmingham today. There are countless local bands and artists who are making great music, and there are many venues in Birmingham where you can see them perform.
